Welcome! This is our first post in our brand new shiny blog. We love the Austin food scene or maybe we just enjoy hangin-out and discovering a good bite to eat. One of the great things about Austin is the number of independently-owned restaurants and the diverse offerings available, not only in the variety of foods but the different neighborhoods and locales. As we explore the local offerings we would like to share our experiences and humble opinions along the way. By no way are we critics, nor do we think our opinions are more substantial than those of the average restaurant goers’ –because that is exactly what we are. In other words, we never take ourselves too seriously. We are just out to have some fun.
As one of the co-authors of this blog, I’ll confess, I’ve been around for a while and have seen Austin grow up since the mid 70′s. At least that is when I have my earliest memories of going out to eat. It’s hard to imagine, but there are still restaurants that have been around since then that are still thriving or experiencing a revival of sorts. Retro seems to be in. Some of them are gone and will only be a memory. While others have re-invented themselves with a new name, menu or a new location. I hope I can bring that perspective to the table in some of the articles I will write.
We will check in on: Austin food events, that cozy new coffee shop, new finds at the farmers market–just to name a few. If we stumble across a particularly interesting food-related item or web site, we will be sure to share. Hill country wine trips and foodie excursions are all fair game. We intend to have regular features in the upcoming months like the “best of” or “spotlight on” series. We won’t necessarily focus on an entire restaurant but maybe a particular item on the menu, a notable feature, amusing history, or any other aspect that deserves some recognition. Who has the best patio dining in town? Who has the most scrumptious, cheesiest plate of mac-n-cheese? Sprinkle in a random musing or two, and commentary on other local events, and I think you get an idea of the variety of topics for this blog. Through all this we hope to stir up some healthy discussion, get your feedback, and learn something for future adventures.
During this process I’ve discovered I can be a little meticulous (there is another word for this) about the look and feel of the site, so you may see some changes during the first couple of weeks and as the site grows.
We hope you enjoy and will stop by often to share your thoughts and opinions with us. We would love to hear them.
~Lee
